The first of the series of dialogue concluded that Pakistan's nuclear tests in the name of deterrence have only intensified the prevailing cold war, posing serious threat to the regional peace. Since the world knew that Pakistan had the nuclear capability there was no need to conduct the nuclear tests, which only resulted in a tarnished image of the country on international level.

The tests have hampered peace and co-operation initiatives taking place in South Asia and as a result Pakistan may have to face economic sanctions laid down by the West. The decision to explode the devices was more based on 'ideology' rather than 'intelligence'. Despite the fact, that the supporters of the nuclear test tried to establish Pakistan's nuclear bomb as an 'Islamic' bomb, it failed to muster the support of the other Muslim countries. Since the command and control of the nuclear weapons lies in a few hands, who have their own agendas to pursue, a wise use of the deadly devices cannot be expected. To improve the image of the country as a pro-peace nation and to avoid the economic sanctions, Pakistan should sign Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty.
