encourage writings on issues of social awareness, SAHIL, an Islamabad NGO
working against child sexual abuse has announced Awards for Newspapers
and Reporters for the best coverage on crimes against children. SAHIL has
invited all newspapers and journalists from Pakistan to participate in
the competition. The articles should have been published during Sep, 1999-Jan,
2000.
There are two categories of these awards:
a. Award for newspapers
Two newspapers will be awarded for the most *sensitised reporting of cases of child sexual abuse. Newspapers are required to submit their names for the competition.
b. Prizes for journalists
Two prizes will be distributed among journalists for published articles on awareness raising regarding crimes against children. This competition is open to all journalists across Journalists are required to submit the original cut out of their articles, to SAHIL by post. However, they need not to send prescribed form for their entry. Date of publication and name of newspaper should be mentioned on the cut out. Please mark the envelope "Journalists Award Competition" and mail to SAHIL, P.O. Box 235, F-8 Markaz, Islamabad - 44000.
All entries must reach by 1st Feb, 2000. No entry will be entertained after this date. Winners will be notified by mail and prizes will be distributed at a ceremony to be held by SAHIL in Feb, 2000.
* Sensitised reporting should include as many of the following as possible:
(a) Age of child
(b) Sex of child
(c) Whether the case was
registered by the police or not
(d) FIR No.
(e) Time of the incident
(f) Place of incident
(g) Realistic profile of
perpetrator
(h) Photograph of perpetrator
(i) News story focus on
abuser.
Sensitised reporting should not include the following:
(a) Name of victim
(b) Photograph of victim
(c) Voyeuristic details
of actual sex crime
(d) Physical description
of victim
(e) News story focus on
victim
