Media group on disaster mitigation formed 
A nation-wide Media Group for Disaster Mitigation in Pakistan was formed, at the concluding session of the workshop, to monitor disaster mitigation in the country and to provide training to the journalists at district level for objective reporting of disaster, its impact and the mitigation efforts. 
Senior reporter of the news agency Pakistan Press International (PPI), Ijaz Ahmed will coordinate the group that comprise representatives of concerned government agencies, experts on disaster mitigation and journalists from all over the country. 

Other members who showed willingness to volunteer their services for the group are Abuzar Waseem, Ahmar Masti Khan, Fozia Tanveer, Haq Nawaz Khan, Hussain Sajjad, Mohsin Babbar, Najamul Islam Usmani, Shahbaz Ishaq, and Wasim Haider. 
While, a publication committee membered by Amjad Bhatti and Iqbal Haider Butt was established to support it. It was decided that the group would enhance its membership in due coarse of time. JRC will act as the secretariat for this group. 

Alongwith bringing out a publication on the proceedings of this workshop, the group would also conduct researches and training workshops. The focus areas include impact of disaster on development; rehabilitation of affectees; problems facing government agencies in prevention against disaster before and rehabilitation afterwards; the state responsibility; and the role of media in reporting pre-disaster and post-disaster state of affairs. It was also agreed upon in principle that the group should bring out publications in Urdu and Sindhi for greater outreach.
