From Nippon with love

As the eye of an artist observes to a higher degree of sensitivity, it penetrates sensuously and creates a feel of truth within the viewer's mind. Due to the presence of this thought provoking element in artistic expression, art since early nineteenth century has also been used as an effective tool to signify social, cultural and traditional symbols of societies.
The expression of art was rejuvenated when the paintings of a Japanese artist Kozuko Tajima were exhibited at a Coopera art gallery, October 10th 20th. In her paintings, aspects of local culture and tradition, nature and environment served the purpose of the subjects.

Just as I entered a gigantic rectangular hall, the right hand wall contained the set of paintings portraying socio-cultural dimension of our indigenous lives as seen by the Japanese artist. These paintings display everyday life scenes of local markets, the working norms of the society, impressions of the women and their cultural significance in our society.
These paintings also fall into the domain of conceptual art as the visuals unlock themselves narrating a specific thought, projected through images.

The overall impact of the exhibition is thought provoking, relieving and satisfactory to demonstrate the possible spaces for art and artist in the making of a healthy society. This was a useful contribution from Japanese female artist in the local sphere. Also, the paintings would reveal detailed study of the local cultural and traditional values, and extensive research work done by the artist. This observed fact certifies the authenticity of the artist as producing knowledge in images.
