Journalism & photojournalism awards
The deadline is drawing near for entries to be submitted for the 1999 Asia-Pacific Awards for Excellence in Environmental Journalism and Photo Journalism.

These awards are an initiative of the Asia-Pacific Forum of Environmental Journalists (AFEJ).

Theme: The main theme of the award is high quality coverage of the environment, its conservation and threats to it. Journalists are invited to submit published stories and photographs that have covered any aspect of the environment in their country or region. This includes: scientific research and findings; protected areas; ecotourism; conservation; sustainable development; eco-friendly alternative products and fuels; environmental education: environmental political issues; threats to the environment; mining, logging, oil extraction and other forms of exploitation of natural resources; and social issues.

Participants: All journalists and photographers, staff or freelance can take part in the contest. They should be residents of the Asia-Pacific region and work in or with the local or national media.

Award entries: The award will consider only printed articles and images published in the local print media. Each journalist will be able to submit a minimum of five published articles or photos. These should have been published in newspapers or magazines between January 1 and December 31, 1999.

Entries (including copies of photographs) can be submitted via post by February 28, 1999.
