| Resolution of Kashmir Issue must for regional peace |

Dialogue
Any third party mediation to resolve Indo-Pak conflict will not be helpful unless the people of Kashmir are involved in the process of Kashmir issue settlement. This was stated by President South Asian Research and Resource Centre Canada, Dr. Daya Verma, addressing a dialogue held on Post Nuclear Explosions Scenario in South Asia, organised by Journalists Resource Centre (JRC) last month. Dr Daya Verma said that fundamentalism in the South Asian region has reached alarming altitudes and it should be realised as an international problem. He said the fundamentalists on either side of the border should not forget that they share the same history. He was of the view that the Bhartia Janta Party government had no threat from the neighbouring country and the nuclear tests conducted by them was just for political gains. He stressed on the need for a non-state effort and exchange of delegations comprising common people to share their viewpoint, which could ensure harmony in the region. He said without resolving problems between India and Pakistan the dream of developing South Asia could not be materialised. Dr Daya Verma was on a short visit to Pakistan to view the developments taking place in the region. |
