Press freedom day awards
The World Association of Newspapers (WAN) and the World Editors Forum (WEF), a WAN branch which represents senior newsroom personnel, have launched a major campaign to encourage newspapers world-wide to promote World Press Freedom Day on 3 May. The groups have compiled a package for  newspapers to use, which includes editorial and advertising materials, political cartoons, essays by journalists and writers on press freedom at the turn of the century, regional reviews of press freedom, and other information on murdered and imprisoned journalists. This campaign supports the mandate of World Press Freedom Day by drawing attention to the widespread violations of the right to freedom of expression and by campaigning "against the murder and jailing of journalists and the censorship and banning of their publications," says WAN. The materials can be viewed and/or downloaded in English, French, German and Spanish from WAN's website at

http://www.wan-press.org/3may.
They can also be obtained by contacting Paul Rojas Carstensen at WAN,
