| Training of journalists
is imperative for Sindhi media persons and the senior journalists should
collaborate with media bodies to contrive a training programme for Sindhi
newspaper professionals. This was resolved at a dialogue on journalists
and the journalism arranged by local journalists on the initiative of JRC
at Shahdad Kot Press Club on November 9, 1999.
A number of journalists, intellectuals and social activists attended the seminar and highlighted issues facing the local journalist community. Ehsan Junejo, while presenting a brief description of the state of journalism in upper Sindh, briefed the audience about the aims and objectives of JRC. Mr Junejo said that the JRC would also conduct seminars and workshops in other cities of Sindh to enhance the professional capacity of the local press. Professor Altaf Quadri said that the role of the journalist was to represent the masses and depict society in its true colours. He maintained that mere articulation of words is not journalism. Had that been the case, every literature would have been categorised as journalism, he added. He said that the journalists need to enhance their professional skills in order to make a useful contribution to the society. The participants of the seminar hailed the efforts of JRC that aim at developing professional capacity of journalists so as to enable them perform their obligations with social responsibility. |
